TRANSPARENCY IN LOCAL GOVERNMENT IS ESSENTIAL:

From Kenneth Welch, founder of OPEN GOVERNMENT BLANCO COUNTY TEXAS: Local Government is at the foundation of our democracy. There are 254 counties in Texas and within each are School Districts, Municipalities, Emergency Services Districts, and Groundwater Districts. These governmental bodies oversee the needs of those who live within their jurisdiction.

The local needs of the residents include public health and safety, law enforcement, education, emergency response, roads, water, waste management, records and election management, etc.. All of these entities are led by locally elected officials who work for the people. Although the citizenry give authority to their officials, the decisions that are made must always be made in the open with citizen oversight.

The purpose of this site is to provide exposure for fact-based information on the business conducted by each government body. Texas statutes clearly define information that must be available under the Public Information Act and how our governmental bodies must conduct their meetings and deliberations under the Open Meetings Act. Often, important issues get little attention from local media or the facts behind the story are not revealed by the governmental body. We seek the truth!
